NIMC installs additional NIN enrolment equipment nationwide



The National Identity Management Commission has approved the distribution of additional enrolment systems in a move to boost National Identification Number enrollment in the country.

The commission, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the additional enrolment devices underscore the commitment of its Director General/ Chief Executive Officer, Abisoye Odusote-Coker, to streamline its operations and enhance overall effectiveness.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, the systems have been installed and are in use across all the states and have resulted in the reduction of time spent by applicants while increasing the number of applicants attended to daily.

It further disclosed that the DG had sent out monitoring and evaluation teams across various centres nationwide to ensure the smooth running of enrolment and modification exercises.

It read in parts, “The team will also ensure strict compliance with her zero-tolerance stance against all forms of extortion and unethical practices.

“Coker-Odusote has emphasized that her administration will not condone extortion of applicants and has since directed that any staff found wanting will be dealt with in line with the provisions of the constitution and extant Public Service Rules.

“She requests that any applicant extorted should report such incident to the following official channels: phone line 08155015388; 07002255646; email – [email protected]; [email protected].”

In recent times, the monthly average enrolment for NIN has slowed. In 2023, 104.16 million got NINs. This was a 10.77 per cent increase from the 94.03 million that was recorded in 2022.

Actual figures of Nigerians that registered for NIN was 10.13 million in 2023, a monthly average of 844,167 per month.

This was a far cry from the Federal Government’s target of 2.5 million registrations per month.

Recently, NIMC also revealed plans to lessen waiting time at its enrolment centres across the country. The DG, Coker-Odusote, during a presentation of new enrolment devices to the commission by the Korea International Cooperation Agency Nigeria Office, noted that the commission is exploring several measures to equip its field offices.
