The President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr Samuel Agbeluyi, has stressed the significance of ongoing education for tax professionals.
He said it was crucial in refining and influencing the dynamics of the taxation profession in the country.
Agbeluyi made the call during a one-day workshop themed “A Rounded Tax Professional” in Lagos recently.
“As a knowledge-based institute, continuous learning is key to our role in shaping the professional landscape of taxation in Nigeria. This workshop represents a unique opportunity for us to come together and unbundle the complexities associated with taxation,” he stated.
According to the CITN boss, the theme of the workshop underscores the need for versatility and proficiency in every aspect of the tax practice.
Agbeluyi said, “In our ever-changing economic landscape, the role of tax practitioners has become increasingly significant and being well-rounded requires more than just mastering the technicalities of tax policy, laws, and processes.
“It involves understanding the ethical dimensions of our profession, staying updated with the latest advancements in taxation framework and embracing a global perspective to navigate the complexities of international taxation.”
He added that the workshop was, therefore, designed to explore the various dimensions of tax practice, transforming each of the practitioners into a well-rounded professional equipped to face the challenges of the profession.
Meanwhile, he stated that the essence of the workshop was to engage in insightful discussions, share experiences and learn from experts in the field.
“Together we can explore innovative approaches, best practices, and emerging trends that will empower us to excel in our profession,” he added.
