Sporting Lagos coach Paul Offor was full of praises for striker Junior Lokosa for his impact within the team on and off the pitch after the striker scored a brace in their 3-0 win over Kano Pillars in a match-day seven game of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Lokosa, who finished as the highest goal scorer in the league in 2018 while playing for Kano Pillars, joined the newly promoted side from Remo Stars before the start of the season.
He has however made a slow start in the NPFL this season, with just one goal in their first six matches before taking his tally to three with the brace against his former side.
After the win which took Sporting Lagos to sixth in the table, Offor spoke highly about the wealth of experience the striker brings into the team.
“I’ve never had doubts about him. What he does for us in the dressing room is the most important thing for me. He helps the young strikers in the team, like Jonathan and Okon score goals. That’s very important for me,” the coach said via the club website.
“The fact that we were able to keep a clean sheet felt really good. I’m happy we scored and I’m happy with the performance,” he added.
After leaving Kano Pillars in his breakthrough season in 2019, Lokosa has had stints in other African countries with Esperance in Tunisia and Simba FC in Tanzania before returning to the NPFL with Kwara United in 2021. He also made few appearances for Remo Stars last season before he was snapped up by Sporting Lagos.
Although he is three goals behind the leader of the goal scorer’s chart, Bayelsa United’s Robert Mizo, Lokosa has been touted to finish as the highest goal scorer in the NPFL this season.
